Samoa Air Is The First Airline To Start Charging Passengers Based On How Much They Weigh

In the middle of every last one of contentions about whether large plane travelers may as well need to pay for an additional seat (they ought not), the minor bearer Samoa aerial shuttles has taken it above and beyond by charging not only the corpulent, however everybody, a toll that is figured dependent upon what amount of that individual weighs.

The air transport appears pretty glad for this improvement in bloated disgracing, proclaiming right on the front page of its online site:

Samoa Air, Introducing a planet first:

'Pay just for what you weigh'!

We at Samoa Air are keeping airfares reasonable, by charging our travelers just for what they weigh. You are the expert of your Air'fair', you choose what amount of (or small) your ticket will require. No more over the top abundance things expenses, or being charged for gear you may not convey. Your weight in addition to your gear things, is what you pay for. Modest.

The Sky's the Limit!

Truth is stranger than fiction: you "choose" the extent you pay. On the grounds that as everybody knows, what amount of an individual weighs is 100% dead set by the extent they wish to weigh.

As per Reuters, they've been doing this since final November, however the practice just added on notice in the news when the carrier began doing global flights. "The industry has this notion that all individuals all through the planet are the same size," Samoa Air CEO Chris Langton told Reuters. "Air transports dependably run on weight, regardless of seats. There is doubtlessly in my brain that this is the thought of time to come. This is the fairest path of you voyaging with your family, or yourself."

Do we suppose this is really reasonable? All the seats on a plane are the same size, so I suppose it bodes well that every seat might as well cost the same sum. Provided that anything, greater individuals might as well pay less, on the grounds that the greater you are, the less agreeable it is to fly in economy class. And evidently, the thought that individuals can "choose" the extent they weigh is foolish. Stoutness aside, a tall individual of normal extents is setting off to weigh more than a short individual. Is that a decision, as well? Also, rich individuals are fat at easier rates than underprivileged individuals. Anyway by all means, how about we make air voyage considerably more demanding for the working class to accomplish.

While energizing, most aerial transports at present consider the way that they will be passing on a combination of human figures from one place to another, and consider a support zone on the off chance that their travelers weigh more than they want them to, which appears sensible to me. Is taking out that cushion zone and sparing cash on fuel truly worth treating mere mortals considerably more like freight than aerial shuttles as of recently do?

Of course, I assume the hefty could spare cash and work off those few added pounds assuming that they simply ran and/or swam where they were attempting to go. Issue illuminated! Marie Antoinette might be so pleased.

Is the Devil’s Pool the most dangerous pool in the world? Some say yes, considering that it lies on the edge of Victoria Falls – and if you accidentally went over the side, there would be a long 360-foot drop before you reached the rocky base of the falls. That doesn’t stop people from swimming there – or parents from bringing their young children to catch a glimpse of the view from the cool waters. The images are so fantastic, people tend to think they’re faked. Swimming is only possible from September to December, when the river is low enough not to sweep people right over the falls, but at least one person does die every year.

JAT Agrees Marketing Alliance With Etihad

Serbia's JAT Airways has secured a marketing alliance with Etihad Airways to codeshare, stopping short of the equity tie-up mooted by Serbia's government.
Mired in recession and struggling to find investors in the European Union, Serbia had hoped Abu Dhabi-based Etihad would buy a stake in JAT, with media reports suggesting 49 percent was up for sale.
Etihad chief executive James Hogan told a news conference on Monday that any investment could be a long way off.
"We have to look at JAT to see if that opportunity exists. It is still a very early stage of that process."
JAT will add its JU code to flights to 21 destinations within Etihad's network, while the Gulf airline will put its EY code on all 23 JAT flights within Europe, Hogan said.
Etihad will start operating flights between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade on June 15, following Gulf competitor Qatar Airways, which started flights between Doha and the Serbian capital via Ankara late last year.
Serbia has been trying to offload JAT for years.
Last month the government said it was ready to take on EUR€170 million (USD$222.66 million) of the carrier's debt, pay leases for six new aircraft from Airbus and secure severance payments for redundant workers.
JAT operates 10 older Boeing 737-300s and four ATR 72-200 turboprop aircraft on 30 routes within Europe and to the Middle East.
Serbia is looking east for investment and sovereign lenders including Russia, China and the United Arab Emirates.
Belgrade has already secured a USD$400 million sovereign loan from Abu Dhabi for agriculture investment and agreed more than USD$400 million in investment by the Al Dahra agricultural firm based in the emirate.

Ducati CEO In Pole For Alitalia's Top Seat

Gabriele Del Torchio, chief executive of Italian motorcycle maker Ducati, is the front-runner to take the driver's seat at loss-making Alitalia, Italian newspapers reported on Saturday.
Alitalia's former chief executive Andrea Ragnetti quit after only a year in the job in February as the struggling airline reported a net loss of USD$367 million in 2012.
Alitalia, 25 percent owned by Air France-KLM, suffered last year from a drop in demand for air travel amid the euro zone debt crisis and recession in Italy. The Alitalia board is expected to name a new chief executive next week, Il Corriere della Sera said without citing their sources. Il Messaggero said the board could meet on April 18.
"This is an idea, I haven't signed anything yet," Del Torchio, known as a turnaround expert at Ducati, told Il Corriere della Sera.
Ducati was bought by Volkswagen's Audi division last year. Revenue rose 16 percent to EUR€606 million in 2012.
Alitalia was rescued from bankruptcy in 2008, when it was bought by a consortium made up of Italian companies including Intesa Sanpaolo, road operator Atlantia and IMMSI, which also controls scooter maker Piaggio.
Air France-KLM, which has held its stake in Alitalia since January 2009, has said it will probably wait until at least 2014 before using an option to take control of the airline.

Qatar Hopes Its 787s Will Fly In April

Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker said he hopes that all five of the airline's Boeing 787s will be back in service by the end of April, as confidence grows in the industry that regulators may be close to declaring the jet safe.
Speaking at the launch of Qatar's service to Chicago, Al Baker also said he thinks Boeing's fix for the battery system that overheated on two planes in January will work. He said if it were not the right solution, the Federal Aviation Administration would not have approved the testing plan for it. Boeing completed testing on April 5.

"The 787 has such a huge technological leap compared to other airplanes that it was obvious that some kind of teething problem will occur," Al Baker said in an interview.
"Boeing is very busy getting the certification process finished and I'm sure they'll give you something very soon."
On Tuesday, United Airlines said it planned to begin 787 flights on May 31, five days sooner than expected.
Al Baker, who has said he will seek compensation from Boeing over the 787 problems, declined to discuss the terms he is seeking
The fast-growing airline, which is enjoying a civil aviation boom in the Gulf region, has an order for 30 787s, plus an option to buy 30 more.
The company also plans to use Boeing's next-generation 777X aircraft, which is still in development.
"I don't think the 777X would be around until the end of this decade or early part of the next decade," he said, adding that the 787's problems had not affected plans for other planes that Qatar gets from Boeing.
Qatar Airways, 50 percent owned by the state of Qatar, currently serves New York, Washington, DC, Houston and Chicago in the United States. The company will be able to fully join the oneworld alliance by October, Al Baker said, after which it will have code sharing arrangements with other oneworld members, including British Airways.
Baker also said the new Hamad International airport, which was supposed to be open for a soft launch on April 1, will be fully operational by the end of 2013.

United Airlines puts 787s in schedule for May 31

United Airlines has put its grounded Boeing 787 Dreamliner back into its flight schedules beginning May 31.
That moves up the airline's projections on returning the Dreamliner to passenger service by about a week, suggesting confidence that Boeing's proposed battery fix will get the new-age jets flying again soon.
"We are in the process of formulating our domestic flying plans and will be making additional schedule changes as we gain visibility to the time line for certification and modification work," United spokeswoman Christen David confirmed Monday toCNN.
Travel website Jaunted.com was among the first to note United's expedited 787 return, spotting 787s in United's flight schedules for some Houston-Denver flights beginning May 31.
David says the airline will make more schedule changes involving the Dreamliner as the airline gets a better idea of when the plane will be cleared to fly.

Bloomberg News notes that "the previous goal was to restart that service with a 787 on June 5, pending U.S. regulators' approval of Boeing's proposed upgrades to the jet's lithium-ion batteries."
United says it expects to resume international 787 flying June 10, when the carrier will launch its postponed Denver-Tokyo service. That route was to begin in May, but was delayed after the aviation regulators from the U.S. and elsewhere grounded the jet. Also on June 10, United will begin deploying some of its Dreamliners on flights between Houston Bush Intercontinental and London Heathrow.
Boeing's proposed fix for the 787's smoldering batteries still needs approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. The fix will then have to be installed on each plane. United, which owns six 787s, is the only U.S. airline that currently has Dreamliners in its fleet.
Other airlines also have begun putting the Dreamliners back into the schedules, though all are cautioning that the schedules remain subject to change, according toAustralian Business Traveller.
Qatar Airways, for example, expects to resume Dreamliner flying between Doha and London Heathrow on May 15, though an airline spokeswoman warned Business Traveller magazine that its 787 schedule "remains subject to change."

Prince William certainly wanted it that way. He trekked around Kenya carrying Princess Diana's ring in his backpack until he found just the right place to propose to Kate Middleton. In a remote log cabin with no electricity that was accessible only by air or -- bizarrely -- horseback, Wills got down on one knee and asked Kate to be the future queen of England.
It was the ultimate destination proposal, and it shows William knew exactly what was expected of a 21st-century proposal.
The proposal trip: cashing in on the trend
If there wasn't already a growing trend for guys to pop the question on vacation, then this single event made it one. It was one royal move that men everywhere could confidently copy (if not in Kenya, exactly).
On bended knee: what worked back then works today. Or so say the experts.

When Phil Govey asked Rachel Amamoo to marry him in front of the Trevi Fountain in Rome, Rachel says time stopped, just like in the movies.
"It was kind of like we were in a little bubble, because there were lots of people around, but it was like it was just us two," she says. "It was so romantic."
David Mendelsohn got it equally right when he proposed to his girlfriend, Isika, in Lake Como, Italy.
"Everything fell into place like it was prewritten," says David.
He proposed beneath a 200-year-old oak tree made famous by the James Bond film "Casino Royale."
Isika said yes, and, she added, "By the way, I'm pregnant."
Destination proposals are now de rigeur in the story of a couple's romance, according to Jonathan Krywicki, whose Melbourne, Australia-based company Pitch & Woo helps guys create unforgettable proposals for their girlfriends.
Krywicki says one in three of his clients plan to propose while away from home, often while abroad.
A consumer survey by American Express found a similar result, with 30% of consumers citing a weekend trip or vacation as the best time to pop the question.
"It's a really popular thing to propose while you're away from home because it's all about creating that fairytale fantasy," says Krywicki. "There's something about being in an unknown area that adds to the allure of the moment."
The right way to ask
The proposal doesn't have to be overly complicated, as long as the setting is right.
Just ask Naomi Tarszisz, whose husband proposed to her in Central Park. They were visiting friends in New York at the time and Phil Rushton was carrying a diamond in his pocket.

Walking around the city on an overcast April day, Rushton decided all his ideas -- the top of the Empire State Building had been at the head of the list -- were lame, so he guided Naomi to a green patch of lawn in Central Park. They sat down for a chat and the sun suddenly appeared.
When Naomi stood to leave, Rushton got on one knee and said, "Naomi, will you do something for me? Will you make me the happiest man in the world; will you marry me?"
Being asked was nice, says Naomi. Being on holiday in the couple's favorite city was great, but being able to look directly into her future husband's eyes made it perfect.
"He got up on one knee," says Naomi, who is a foot shorter than Rushton. "I appreciate the down-on-one-knee gesture, but it's also just the easiest way to look into my eyes.
"I hadn't imagined a proposal, but if I did it probably would have been on an escalator or something."
Knowing your partner -- and her expectations about the proposal -- are the key to proposal success, says Krywicki.
In his booklet, "The Seven Biggest Mistakes Men Make When Proposing," Krywicki says the first mistake is timing. Is she ready? Is your relationship ready?
The second is expectation.
"You really need to know what her expectations are," Krywicki says. "Most women, not all of them, but most women have this fantasy of how this special day will take place.
"Now, if you've got a partner that's innately private and you go and do a public proposal and she feels pressured to say yes because everybody's looking at her -- that's not a good thing."
The wrong kind of obligation
If only Kirsten Thomas's ex-fiance had been operating with such expert advice.
He proposed while the couple was on holiday in South Africa, only to break it off 10 days later.
When she asked why he'd proposed in the first place, he told her he'd felt pressured to carry it out while they were on vacation.
Which begs the question: Is planning a "destination proposal" all becoming a bit of an industry, something so expected that it's no longer a surprise, even a bit cliché?

Rachel and Phil's romance had all the hallmarks of a fairy tale. They met in New York while Phil was on a secondment from his London law firm and began dating casually.
Then, one day when they were running a half-marathon together, Phil suffered an aneurism and was rushed to the hospital in a coma. Rachel kept vigil at his bedside and when he woke, they fell in love over a tray of bad hospital food.
Rachel eventually moved to London to be with Phil and expected a proposal would follow.
"I was kind of expecting a destination proposal for a long time," says Rachel. "Every trip we went on -- Paris, New York, Corsica, Sicily -- I was always like, 'Oh, this is romantic' waiting for the proposal that didn't come."
Then they took a trip to Rome and it happened. While the moment was romantic -- let's not forget the bubble she found herself in -- the story they tell these days is more about how that bubble was burst by a street vendor trying to sell them a rose.
"That really brought us back into the commercial aspect of hanging out around the Trevi Fountain in Rome," says Rachel.
Perhaps Katherine Burgdorf got the balance right when she proposed on a park bench during a coffee break from work. The big surprise here is not that she was a woman proposing to her boyfriend, but that it was a warm, sunny day in London.
"It was a beautiful day, so we went and had a coffee at our favorite coffee stand," says Katherine. "We sat on a park bench under a beautiful apple tree.
"I think I was overwhelmed by the weather and I thought, 'Oh my God, I'm going to ask!'
"I totally surprised myself. I had the shakes afterward. And he was like, 'Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes."'
